The Deputy President William Ruto caught many by surprise when he accused Kitui Governor Malombe of being the main hindrance to commencement of mining activities in the mineral rich Kitui County.

During the launch of the much anticipated Kibwezi-Mutomo-Kitui road on 6th Dec, Ruto accused Gov. Malombe of impending mineral extraction despite receiving good support from the government.

‘There is much wealth that lays within the mineral resources. The investors have been willing but Malombe has made the process impossible.’ Ruto said.

‘The county lacks formal framework that outlines terms of engagement with mining investors.’ He added.

Ruto said he was unhappy that despite CS Rotich and Minister Balala having signed crucial mining agreements the process has totally stalled.

Ruto said he concurred with Sen. Musila on the reluctance of the Governor to initiate any meaningful activities in regards to mineral extraction in the county.
