Malombe lacks a ‘Tharaka Nithi’ in Kitui

It is common knowledge that NASA presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga boasts strongholds in Tharaka Nithi, Nyanza and Western Kenya but Malombe lacks a stronghold.

While his rivals Charity Ngilu and Musila enjoy solid support base in Kitui Central and larger Mwingi respective, the governor has no part of Kitui County which can guarantee him a bloc vote making him a weak opponent in the governor’s race.

Furthermore, his choice of a running mate was a big miscalculation.

Though Agnes Kambua is a seasoned politician, her coming from same home area as Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his son Kennedy who has been nominated to EALA, Mwingi North, will undoubtedly political protest from the rest of the region.

Mwingi Central and West will feel sidelined in terms of powe sharing and prompt them to vote their son Senator David Musila as the next governor.

Ms Kambua is a good choice as far as gender and regional balancing is concerned but infeasible for a vote hunting mission.

So Malombe could have been wise to pick his deputy from those two areas.

Ngilu’s choice of Dr Wathe was also pathetic. Wathe is not influential despite being a renowned community speaker. Ngilu could have done better than that.

On a different note, I respect estranged Malombe’s DG Peninah Malonza but is she a politician?
