Governor Malombe is a troubled man after “his” supporters dumped him in broad daylight and ran to his rival Charity Ngilu, whom he recently termed as unworthy competitor.
Drama unfolded after caravans of the two gubernatorial contestants bumped into each other at the main bus stage.
To Malombe’s utter disbelief, all the people in his caravan and at the bus station abandoned the embattled county boss and rushed to join Mama Ngilu’s entourage chanting “kava mama”.
Malombe was left hopelessly waving at vehicles and shops, as people showed him their backs while running after Ngilu. He tried in vain to call them back.
Ngilu literary robbed him of supporters, making a major political statement besides letting him know that she is not a pushover.
Malombe had led his convoy of “supporters” around the streets of Kitui Town in celebration after he was cleared by IEBC to defend his seat while Ngilu was on her way to Kefri for due clearance by electoral agency.
In a recent media briefing, Malombe was quoted as saying the former Land CS was not a competitor to him and that he was certain he would trounce her alongside Senator David Musila come the August 8th polls.
Though crowds do not necessarily translate to votes there is more than meets the eye in Ngilu’s political might given yesterday’s events.
