Relentless Kitui Central parliamentary hopeful Moses Mbanda is a very depressed man after IEBC declared him ineligible for clearance to vie in the August 8 elections following a case of double nomination.
According to official reports from the electoral agency’s Kitui Central office, Mr Banda who is vying on a Jubilee Party ticket got a shock of his life after submitting his nomination papers for due clearance but the IEBC nominees database indicated he was both an independent candidate and a political party member which is a very serious anomaly.
“The system could not proceed unless such anomaly is corrected forthwith and consequently updated in the database.
“We immediately advised and guided the aspirant on how to lodge an appeal at our Nairobi headquarters and have the issue sorted out within a week’s time,” said the officer who did not wish to be named.
He admitted that the unprecedented development must have dampened the politician’s shot at the seat but expressed optimism that the IEBC tribunal would clear him within the window so that he can hit the ground campaigning.
Efforts to reach Banda for comment bore no fruits as calls and text messages went unanswered.
This hitch dealt a blow to “Mheshimiwa” Banda, his family, friends and and most importantly his supporters.
It is also no doubt that his self-proclaimed first lady cannot walk head high on the streets of Kitui Town following the disappointment that befell her boyfriend.
Banda unsuccessfully contested for the seat on a TNA ticket in the last General Election.
