Ngilu secures Sh30 million drugs, non-pharmaceuticals for Kitui hospitals

The persistent shortage of drugs in hospitals across Kitui County will soon become a thing of the past after Governor Charity Ngilu secured medical supplies worth Sh30 million from KEMSA.

In a bid to make good her promise of quality and reliable healthcare for Kitui people, Ms Ngilu yesterday held a consultative meeting with KEMSA’s officials in Nairobi.

They consulted on how fast the county health facilities could get a fresh batch of drugs to supplement the depleting supplies and ensure the residents enjoy excellent medical services.

The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority’s Ag. Chairman Andrew Onyach and CEO Philip Omondi promised that the first batch of supplies worth Sh30 million would be dispatched within a week once the county administration makes a requisition.

The Governor as well managed to examine records of medical supplies made to Kitui in the last quarter, which amounted to Sh98 million, and pledged to order an audit on the usage since there seems to be instances of misappropriation.
