Gubernatorial loser Malombe petitions against Ngilu’s win

Former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe on September 7th filed a petition at the Kitui High Court challenging incumbent Charity Ngilu’s victory in the recent general elections.

Malombe now wants Ngilu’s election annulled on grounds that she was not validly elected as the second governor of Kitui County, according to the petition seen by KO.

Ngilu won the election with 169,990 votes, followed by former Kitui Senator David Musila (114,827 votes), while Dr Malombe came last with just 74,681 votes.

Malombe has also alleged that Ms. Ngilu’s agents rigged the election in her favour and that his agents were barred from various polling stations especially those in Kitui Central and Kitui East Constituencies.

The former county boss, who unsuccessfully defended the seat on a Wiper ticket, further wants the court to order for scrutiny and recount of all votes cast during the polling day.

The IEBC and Kitui County Returning Officer Gogo Nguma have also been listed as respondents in the election petition
