It was not business as usual at the Kitui Main Prison as 14 inmates were today crowned with diplomas and certificates in theology.
Nine of the graduates were conferred with certificates while the rest got diplomas in theological studies during the graduation ceremony held at the correctional facility.
The inmates were celebrating the culmination of a two-year scriptural course sponsored by the Association of Faith Churches and Ministers (AFCM), an American theological organisation rolling out the training in 40 prisons across Kenya.
The Prison’s Officer-in-Charge Daniel Kiamba said the course greatly complements the role of the Kenya Prisons Service in rehabilitating criminals besides transforming them into reliable and acceptable members of the society.
AFCM’s Ambassador, Bill Villapiano, said the programme has received a lot of support from local prisons and urged more inmates to enrol for the evangelical training which is fully funded by the faith-based organisation.
