Free Milk Programme is back in Meru County.


Chief Education officer of Meru County has announced that 773 Early Childhood and Development Education, ECDE Centres in the county shall benefit from free milk programme come January next year.

A total of 65,294 nursery school children from the 9 sub counties are expected to benefit from this programme which will be provided twice a week.

Linner Nkirote, Meru county Executive Officer of Education said that the county has set aside KShs 80 million for the programme.She added that the 200ml milk packets shall be provided to the children probably on Mondays and on Fridays.

This school feeding programme is expected to run for 10 years during the reign of the incubent Meru Governor H.E Kiraitu Murungi.

Speaking at the County Office Headquarters in Meru Town, Ms. Nkirote said that they are engaging discussions with milk processing plants registered by the Kenya Dairy Board for supply and distribution of milk to nursery schools.

The enrollment is expected to increase significantly due to this encouragement to the children to love school more.
