Kitui County in partnership with Nacada to tame illicit brewing


The Kitui County government has partnered with the National Agency for the Campaign against Drug Abuse(NACADA) to reach out to the youths in the county to bad drum campaigns against drug and substance abuse.

Speaking during a meeting with school heads in Kitui county,  the county commissioner Boaz Cheruitich noted that this is a menace that affects students directly.

We have had cases of indiscipline because of consumption of drugs and substances in schools. We have therefore agreed with Nacada ,the agency responsible to roll out the programme. They will be be allocating money and in partnership with the county to government, we will be reaching out to the youths and we call for your support on the same.” the county commissioner noted.

Mr.  Cheruitich  further affirmed that the campaign against Illicit brew and second duration in the county is ongoing.
We lost a number of people two or three years ago and this must stop. We are instructing our chiefs that if they allow people to brew and consume these brews, then we are not going to keep them….However, there are proplosals by the business community through the county government to have a better way of distilling or manufacturing traditional liquor in the county. So if there are better ways approved by the Kenya Bureau of Standards and the county government, then we have no problem.” said Cheruitich.
