Governor Ngilu rolls out contractor’s payment plan.

Following the completion of work as per the preceding years contracts, Kitui County government is paying 200 contracts worth KSh. 125,000,000 starting from the second week of February 2018 which were awaiting payment.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu met with the contractors on Saturday 3rd, February 2018 in Kitui town and assured them that no work that have met the set standards as per the contract will go unpaid.

Governor Ngilu promised the contractors a friendly relationship during their work with the County Government and her government’s commitment to settle the unpaid contracts and call upon for new contractors.

“I want to work with you, don’t be intimidated by anyone for it is your right to get paid for the work you did, even with the former administration.” Said Governor Ngilu .

In addition to that,Governor Ngilu repeatedly told the contractors that she is a governor for all and no one should feel isolated in participating in county affairs. She said that all the contracts will be paid after the contractors produce paperwork for their contracts so as she can make lawful the payment process.

“I urge that you produce paperwork for your contracts, this will streamline the payment process.” Governor Ngilu said.

The Governor made clear it that all the County Government tenders will be awarded to the residents of the county so as to ensure wealth creation and poverty eradication among the people.Having in mind that most contractors acquire their loans from commercial banks,

Governor Ngilu asked the contractors to form SACCO’s where they would access loans at low interests rather than acquiring them from commercial banks where their loan interests a bit higher. This will ensure that resources from the county will circulate among the residents and sufficiently contribute greatly to the economic growth of the county.

She promised fairness during the county procurement to ensure that many people benefit from county resources. The contractors were pleased and greatly supported the Governor’s idea.She promised to return life to local industries in the county so as to promote business and also create job opportunities among the youth.

Governor Ngilu also promised to provide a Computed Tomography (CT) scan machine , an X-ray machine and other machines that will see Kitui level four hospital upgraded to a level five hospital.

Speaking at the event, CEC Lands, infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development CEC Hon. Kakundi requested the contractors to maintain quality and standards in construction works to ensure sound mental health is maintained in the sector.

Also present at the event was the Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau and CEC Trade and Hon. Philip Mumo.
