Mwingi: Two in court over polythene bags

Mwingi, 7th Feb, 2018: Two people were on Wednesday arraigned in Mwingi law court for using polythene bags despite its ban last year.

The two appeared before senior resident magistrate Grace Kirugumi and pleaded not guilty to the charges. One of them was taken to Waita GK prison and the other was released after paying the cash bail of sh 10,000.

Japheth Musyoka was charged of possessing 84 bags of clear flat polythene bags which were banned according to gazette notice No. 2356 and 2334 of 2017.

Musyoka was set to pay a fine of sh 10,000 but failed thus taken to Waita GK prison until May 24 2018 when his case will be heard and its mention will be on February 14  2018.

Rose Karemi Ntwiga was found possessing 15 clear flat polythene bags. She was bailed out with sh 10,000. The mention of her case will be on February 14 2018 and hearing on May  24 2018.

The two were arrested during Wednesday operation by the NEMA officials in Kitui following persistent use of the bags by the businessmen.
