Ms Mary Nguli - Kitui CECM, Finance

A report by the Kitui County Minister for Treasury Hon. Mary Nguli has indicated that the county revenue collection has risen with a notable margin of 54% since Governor Charity Ngilu took over as the 2nd Governor of the county.

The Minister disclosed that revenue has been on an upward trend having increased from 21 Million collected in January 2017 to 33 Million collected in January 2018.

The minister however,  urged any resident with substantive information on rumours that a revenue officer is using fake receipt books to collect revenue to forward to her office immediately for speedy action if the allegations are found to be true. She said that the effect of such fraudster moves is to lower the development progress of the county and that the policy of the county is to seal all revenue leakages in order to promote implementation of the identified priority programmes captured in the second supplementary budget submitted to the county assembly for approval.

“I humbly request anyone with tangible evidence about any officer collecting revenue with fake receipt books to furnish my office with accurate details immediately for displinary action.” Madam Nguli said.

Ms. Nguli has further warned that any officer caught undermining revenue collection by use of fake receipts or through any other malpractice will be dealt with accordingly.

“The County Treasury is finalizing on an anti-corruption action plan to be soon rolled out in all county departments. The plan includes elimination of cash handling in revenue collection and full adoption of online payment system to promote efficiency, improve accountability and ensure prudent management of county resources” Ms Nguli added.

She further urged the community to remain vigilant and report any malpractice as they are expected to provide quality feedback and participate in the county’s governance processes as key stakeholders with a view of promoting faster development of the county.
