Is cholera in Kitui?

Mwingi, 2nd March 2018: Seven people from Ngomeni area,Kyuso sub county of Kitui county were on Wednesday hospitalised at Mwingi level iv with cholera symptoms.

Acting health chief officer in Kitui county Dr Allan Owino said they have taken proper measures to fight the cholera outbreak which has been reported in the neighboring counties like Tana river and Garissa.

The measures include licensing food handlers and closing all unlicensed food joints to prevent the spread of the disease.

Dr. Allan added that the county government is effortlessly working on construction of toilets in homesteads that have no toilets to ensure proper waste disposal thus maintaining better hygiene standards.

He urged residents to maintain high levels of cleanliness.This is by taking clean water and food from licenced sellers and also observing better levels of hygiene even at their home.

“I call upon anyone who develops these symptoms that is majorly diarrhea to rush to the nearest hospital for check up” Dr. Allan pleaded with the residents
