On 8th March, most of the world marked International Women’s Day. Some women went on strike demanding better working conditions, others protested violence and oppression, still others debated various issues related to feminism.
Kitui Women rep, Hon Irene Kasalu accompanied by Kitui East legislator, Hon Nimrod Mbai and Kitui minister for Tourism, Sports and Culture, Patrick koki Musau (Kuvasila) took the celebration to Endau.
Ms Kasalu promised Kitui women that her office will stop at nothing for women/youth empowerment in Kitui County. “My office will channel resources to women empowerment ” said Kasalu.
Kitui East promised to fight for his electorates especially women who have been affected by Kitui’s ban on charcoal.
According to the legislator, Kitui East and Kitui South are the most affected by the ban and he feels that the county government should have an elaborate mechanism to help those who relied on charcoal for livelihood.
“Kabla Gavana kufanya lolote anastahili kununua makaa yote kutoka kwa hawa wamama ” says Mbai
The County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Sports and Culture Patrick Musau who represented the Governor assured the residents that the County Government of Kitui was committed to ensure sustainable growth and development in all the areas of the county.
Musau said that Governor Charity Ngilu is aware of the challenges facing women and her administration is fully keen to offer solutions to the many setbacks facing women in the society.
