Nyenze's daughter during the 26th March by-election in Kitui West

The Kitui West by-election kicked off Monday in an exercise  to elect a new Member of Parliament following the death of Francis Nyenze.

Voting commenced exactly at 6.30am and security has been deployed in all the 143 polling stations.The race has attracted a host of candidates from various political parties among them Nyenze’s widow, Edith Nyenze, who is running on a Wiper Democratic Movement Party ticket.

More than 52000 registered voters are expected to take part in the exercise to elect new mp after the death of Francis Nyenze on December 6

Mrs Nyenze is set to compete with Elijah Muimi Kilonzi of the Chama Cha Muungano, Robert Mutiso Lelli of NARC Kenya who came second to the late Nyenze in the last August 8 general elections, Dennis Muli Mulwa who is an Independent candidate and Frida Nyiva Mutui of the Kenya National Congress.

In January, Mrs Nyenze beat former MP Nyiva Mwendwa’s son, Maluki Mwendwa, to win the Wiper ticket.

Leli and Ikonge accused Nasa co-principal Kalonzo musyoka of interfering with the wish of the people of kitui west by visiting the area to campaign for the election of Mrs Nzenze

“Being a man of national stature Kalonzo should not have stooped too law to climb down and come to campaign for a candidate in the by-election. He should have allows a level playing ground for all the candidates,” the Narc Kenya candidate.
