A grisly accident involving a lorry and a Tahmeed bus claimed the life of one individual while two went down with serious injuries on the morning of Friday at Kinyambu market, Makindu in Makueni county.
The lorry’s driver, who is reported to have been driving on the wrong side of the road, lost his life on the spot when the lorry collided head-on with the Nairobi-bound Tahmeed bus along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Affirming the incident, the Kibwezi’s Deputy Police Boss Geoffrey Oderi said that not a single passenger in the bus was injured. However, the driver and conductor of the bus were seriously injured and were rushed to the Makindu Sub-county Hospital for treatment.
The accident comes amid intensified calls from the Makueni County Commissioner, Mohammed Maalim for motorists to be extra careful on roads during this Easter holiday rush.
“We want to ask trailers to stick to their lanes because they are known for careless overtaking,” said Mr Maalim on Thursday while cautioning Makueni residents to observe road safety.
On the very Thursday, Mr Maalim met administrators and police officers from the county and reiterated the government’s commitment to enforce traffic rules.
