Kitui Rural MP Hon. Mwalika Mboni on Tuesday 3rd April, 2018 issued an emergency cheque worthy 1 Million in the aid of completion of burned boys dormitory at Katwala Mixed Secondary school.
The area Member of National Assembly Hon. Mboni toured the school which is at Mbitini Ward, Kisasi Sub-County in Kitui Rural constituency to monitor how far the dormitory renovation project has reached.This visit comes just a few months after an outbreak of fire which razed to ground one dormitory.
No student was reported to have got major injuries after the incident. However, most properties belonging to the dormitory’s boys’ such as the clothes and mattresses got burnt.The fast spread of the fire did not allow the saving of the property within the dormitory.
Upon receiving the cheque, the Cairman of the school Board of Management appreciated the constituency CDF leadership team led by the Hon. Mwalika Mboni for their financial and the material support to the school.The BOM Chair added that the financial support given to the school shall help reducing the burden to the parents who have been struggling to pay the school fees for their children since no money shall be requested from them for reconstruction of the dormitory.
On Tuesday March 20,2018 Kitui Deputy Governor Hon. Wathe Nzau paid a visit to the school just a few hours after the fire incident.The DG promised that the county Government of Kitui would finance the renovation of boys’ dormitory which got razed down by the fire outbreak.Up to date, the outbreak of the fire has not yet been identified by the investigators who were given mandate to establish the root cause of the fire which left one boys’s dormitory totally burnt.
Dr. Nzau added that the county government has put measures in place to deal with the emergencies such as fire outbreaks which have become rampant in the county amomg other devastative calamities in an attempt to ensure well-being as well as the protection of lives of Kitui locals.For a period of few months ago,the county has experienced many fire incidents among them the fire incident that saw the county offices razed down.
During his visit,the DG accompanied by other Senior officials donated mattresses blankets to the students who got affected after the fire razed their dormitory.These students were left with nowhere to sleep following the burning of their dormitory. Nothing much got saved from the dormitory due the intensiveness of the fire razes which quickly spread all over the dormitory.
Mboni said urged the contractor on site to do an excellent job and complete the project as quickly as possible before the schools open for the second term.Also,he added that his NG-CDF could finance the remaining materials needed to complete the dormitory so that the boys can have somewhere to sleep come next term.
