Wreckage of a 14-seater matatu that crashed into a stalled lorry at Mwambi area on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Rosaline Mureithi,a lucky survivor of a road accident hospitalised at the Machakos Level Five Hospital, is happy to have survived from the fatal accident which occurred on Sunday April 22.

Ms Mureithi says that she had initially begged her friends and relatives to take part in a prayer before their departure from Oloitoktok for Nairobi, but her pleas had been ignored.

“Prayers saved me even though I have lost 9 friends” Roseline Mureithi said.

Mureithi, who is among the survivors of a fatal road accident that claimed 9 lives at Kwa Muambi along Mombasa –Nairobi Highway on Sunday morning asked her fellow passengers for a word of prayer before they began on a journey back to Nairobi in vain.

The industrial plant operator and a faithful member of Murangala Adventist Church in Kirinyanga County, said that her plea to have a moment with the Lord was hushed as everyone said that it was too late.

The survivor said she was asleep when the accident came forth and only woke up to hear passengers screaming loudly.

Six people were reported dead on the spot, two others passed on while being rushed to Machakos Level Five Hospital while another died while receiving treatment at the same facility.

The bodies were later transferred to Machakos mortuary.
