Tuesday, May 8, 2018: Chinese construction company Sinohydro corporation visited Uae secondary school in Kitui South taking along with it various donations in line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) role Tuesday morning.
Sinohydro corporation is the company implementing the upgrade of the Kibwezi – Kitui – Kabati – Migwani Road to bitumen standard, an ambitious infrastructure project launched by president Uhuru Kenyatta in December 2016.
Major works have so far been undertaken that include site clearance, topsoil stripping, earthworks, fitting of box and pipe culverts together with construction of deviations to ease flow of traffic.
Led by the project manager Zheng Futhun, Sinohydro delivered 18 various donations to the school among them learning and sporting materials.
The firm had earlier graded the access road to the school which was left dilapidated by the ongoing long rains alongside levelling of the school’s playing ground.
” Education is the way towards achieving personal attainment and community development” Mr. Zheng told students when he addressed them.
He further applauded the developmental partnership between Kenya and China saying ” Kenya and China are both good brothers and development partners and we shall continue to develop our countries and enhance the livelihoods of our people”
In a similar gesture of goodwill to its residence community, Sinohydro has also installed water gutters and a tank together with a fence at Kitoo primary school, another institution of learning neighbouring its camp a few KM from Mutomo town.
Local leaders among them the chairperson of the school’s Board of Management, a retired educationist, Job Mulyunga called for more support to needy institutions and learners to boost literacy and education levels in the vast Kitui South constituency.
” As a community, we are humbled by Sinohydro’s support and we commit ourselves to continued support of the firm during it’s stay in our region” he said.
The project is jointly funded by the Government of Kenya and the China Exim Bank.
According to the contractor, construction work is expected to be completed in the next 42 months.
