Minister defends bouncing bursary cheques

Kitui county Minister for education, ICT and youth development David Kivoto has clarified claims that his ministry is not issuing genuine pro-poor bursary cheques. 

Speaking to Kitui Online on Wednesday  in Kitui town, Mr. Kivoto said he has received complains from some parents especially in kitui south constituency that cheques are bouncing due to insufficient funds in the account.

He clarified to the parents that the main  KCB bank Kitui branch had delayed to update the signatory information to Mutomo branch leading to invalid cheques.

Kivoto pointed out that his ministry has adequate funds in the account  to support education to over 9,000 students from different parts of kitui county.

“My ministry issuing genuine pro-poor bursary cheques to support students from vulnerable families in the 8sub-counties within Kitui. ” the Minister said.

Kivoto advised parents to deliver  cheques in schools once they receive them so that the principals can examine them immediately,urging for quick response in case of irregularities.
