The Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua and the Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi have been rushed to hospital after being rescued from drowning.
The two were fished out of River Gucha today (Friday) after the bridge fell off while they were taking a selfie.
The Machakos County boss is in Kisii County on a two-day tour where he is set to launch his 2022 presidential bid.
The incident has so far elicited mixed reaction on social media with most people accusing Dr Mutua of county trotting while things in his county are not going on well.
This come comes barely a day after Kariobangi residents in Machakos called on the Machakos Government to repair a bridge in the area which is already showing cracks and is feared to collapse anytime.
Mutua landed in Kisii yesterday in his county tour where he has already toured Nyeri and Kakamega counties and expected to tour counties across the country.
Governor Mutua had accompanied the Kisii Deputy Governor to tour the Gucha region. They started their tour at Ogembo town, then visited the Sub-County hospital before proceeding to the river where the incident happened.
The two have however escaped without any injuries.
Mutua however made light the situation saying that he has been baptsied by the river.
“Maji ya river Gucha imebatiza mimi, namuuliza anitafutie ka plot nijenge kanyumba hapa, niko nyumbani sasa. Namrudishia asante mwenyezi Mungu kwa kutupatia baraka ya maji, nimeskia nimeguzwa mpaka roho yangu…”, Mutua said.
