Friday, May 25, 2018: Governor Charity Ngilu has pledged to work closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration for the benefit of Kitui residents who overwhelmingly elected her their governor.
Ngilu Said in the spirit of the national reconciliation whose pace was set by the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, she will “bring to Kitui people everything received from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government”
Speaking at Masyungwa market in Mwingi North Constituency where she had accompanied Devolution and ASALs CS Eugene Wamalwa for launch of the distribution of relief supplies to flood victims in the county, Ngilu said there was need to exploit local resources for the benefit of the citizens and actualize delivery of government development agendas.
She further called on the national government to assist Kitui get market for this season’s bumper harvest of green grams as well as pursue and apprehend criminals terrorizing the residents in Masyungwa village, Tseikuru Ward, Mwingi North Sub-county.
Noting that the national government was focused on delivery of the Big 4 Agenda, Wamalwa said that Kitui will make major contributions to food security agenda which is a key plank in the Big 4 Agenda.
He pledged to bring together Governor Ngilu, Youth CS Kobia and Education CS Amina Mohammed to explore ways to purchase a bumper Ndengu harvest in Ukambani for use by the National Youth Service and the School Feeding Programme.
Saying Ukambani will turn into Kenya’s food basket upon the completion of the multi-million Thwake Dam that will place 100,000 acres of land under irrigation in Kitui, Makueni and Machakos counties.
He praised Governor Ngilu for initiating the Universal Healthcare during her stint as Health Minister, and later as Governor introducing the same in Kitui County and offered support from the national government in a bid to provide better healthcare to Kenyans.
He said the national government was keen to spur manufacturing in the country and promised that following meetings between the Mining CS John Munyes earlier, the Governor and other Kitui leaders, the county will be the next destination for a major mineral exploitation after oil in Turkana County.
Ngilu and Mining CS John Munyes agreed to kick start mining of coal, iron ore, copper and other minerals in Kitui County to spur economic growth in the region.
During the event, the two leaders presided over distribution of relief supplies among them foodstuff, iron sheets, blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets among other household items.
The donations are valued at Ksh 12 million.
