Tseikuru flood victims benefit with relief food



Tseikuru ward residents today are heaappy lot after cabinet secretary in the ministry of devolution and planning  Eugine Wamalwa visited them adding that the national government will collaborate with the county government in delivering services especially aid to the families which have been adversely affected by heavy rains across the country.
CS Wamalwa made these remarks while distributing relief food and construction material worth more than sh 12 million to 213 families which were affected by floods following heavy rains in the area.
Affected families were supplied with ,mattresses, sufurias, mosquitoe nets, soap, food stuffs, blankets, iron sheets for them to begin their lives again.
Mr. Wamalwa said that Kitui county is among 32 counties which have been affected by the heavy rains leaving over 1,500 homes destroyed .
The CS also promised to aid the county government in sourcing market for bumper harvest of green grams which is expected in the county this rainy season.
The national government plans to make Ukambani region the bread basket of Kenya through mega projects such as the Thwake dam which is expected to make Kitui and Makueni counties source of enough food to feed the nation in line with the big 4 agenda being spearheaded by president Uhuru Kenyatta “ Mr. Wamalwa added.
Kitui governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu who had accompanied CS Wamalwa lauded the national government for coming to the aid of the county governments when the rain caused havoc, with 34 people having lost their lives in Kitui and 24 people left injured and more than 1,500 homesteads destroyed.
The governor said they have given out Ksh. 5 million alongside the 7 million from the National government towards the relief aid which was issued to the residents.
