Mwingi North Member of National Assembly, Engineer Paul Nzengu has called upon the government to ensure the two major projects in Mwingi North are revived for the benefit of the common Mwananchi.
Addressing locals at Kyuso town, Engineer Nzengu said the 800 acre project in Wikithuki irrigation scheme has spend more than Ksh.500 million but it has brought no gain to the public.
Tseikuru airstrip which was also designed to be an assembly point for harvests in order to efficiently transport the yield to other markets has turned into a thicket.
Wikithuki irrigation scheme where the government used alot of money in the year 2013 giving farmers hope to kick out poverty in the area through farming ended up with bursting pipes and nonfunctional generators.
“Farmers had hired pieces of land to cultivate ready for bumper harvest but non of them benefited and instead the project collapsed in 2015 after completion of the first phase which is no longer in use too” said Nzengu.
The Tseikuru airstrip that angered the MP said it has become an animal habitat and is covered by thicket. Adding it should be given back to the locals since it covers a very big portion of land which should be used for other income generating activities.
