Senior County officers in Mutomo, Kitui

Kitui County Chief Officer for Tourism, Sports and Culture Zakayo Kimanzi early this week led a team of officers from the ministry in a trip to Kitui South to check on the status of different sites deemed to have a touristic pull potential.During the trip, the County officers toured the Kitui South Game Reserve at different points and visited Mutha, Ikutha and the far end of Ithumba area all in Kitui South constituency.During her campaign rallies early last year prior to the past general elections, Ms. Ngilu vowed to boost domestic and foreign tourism in the county if elected.

They also visited the ancient Ikutha AIC Church and the location of the projected development of a Snake Park in Mutomo. The senior County officers further examined the road connectivity of the areas, the availability of enough skilled personnel, security enforcement and their accessibility among other factors.

The County Department of Tourism, Sports and Culture under the docketship of Hon. Patrick Koki Musau seeks to exhaust measures on how to make such sites better for a significant touristic impact in the county. If well harnessed, these unsung potential local sites can attract tourists and greatly finance the county in its operations.

Their visit comes one week after CECM for Tourism Hon. Patrick Musau visited Mwingi North areas of Ngomeni Water Catchment Rock, Kaningo Camping Site, Mwingi North Game Reserve, the long stretch of Ikoo Valley, Kora National Reserve, Adamson Bridge Falls known for the leading lion conservationist , George Adamson and the famous Muumoni Hills. The development of such sites by prospective investors will go a long a way in developing Kitui County as a whole.

Other targeted areas are the magical Nzambani Rock, the Birding Site at Mituto, Kanyoonyoo Conservancy among other key areas.

Kitui County government under the headship of Governor Charity Ngilu is determined to see the county become the next tourist hub in Kenya.Alongside opening the county to the world, it will aslo lay a strong foundation for constant revenue generation by the county.Boosting local tourism is well structured in the Ngilu’s five-pillared manifesto.
