Eleven year old boy drowns in Matungulu

A eleven year old boy drowned on Tuesday evening at Katine in Matungulu sub county of Machakos county.

According to area Sub chief Timothy Musau the joy together with other kids had gone to fetch water at a quarry in the area.

He observed that the parents were not around at the time of the incident.

“The eleven year old boy had gone to fetch water at the quarries in the company of other children when the tragedy struck”, Said Musau.

Musau said that the kids with the victim raised alarm and residents came and saved the boy.

After first aid the boy was rushed to Kangundo hospital for treatmemt but unfortunately he died while receing treatment.

He urged parents to ensure they don’t send their kids to fetch water unattended to avoid such incidents.

” Parents shouldn’t let their kids go to water sources alone without an adult to supervise them,these quarries are full of water don’t you love your kids as to let them go there alone”,Said Musau.

The chief also asked quarry workers to ensure they cover the holes left after extracting stones to ensure water doesn’t hold up in them and pose danger to little kids.

Katine area being a mining area it’s full of large holes which extraction of stones has taken place.

The holes are later filled with water due to rain which residents from the area fetch for domestic use.
