A cloud of sorrow engulfed Katangini area in Matungulu sub county of Machakos county on Tuesday after a decomposing body of an unidentified man was retrieved from a well.

According to Katangini sub chief Phylis Musyoka there’s possiblity that the man was murdered elsewhere and his body dumped in the well by his perpetrators.

She said that the man had both his hands and legs tied to a stone before being thrown into the well.

“I wouldn’t completely overrule suicide but due to the fact the man had his hands and legs tied to a stone to ensure he sinks there’s a possibility this vould be murder”, She said.

The owner of the well Paul Kioko said that he discovered the body as he came to fetch water for his goats.

The body had started to decompose proof that it had stayed in the well for long.

As I opened the cover of the well to fetch water I saw flies at the well and on a closer look I noticed a floating body I ran out and raised alarm and neighbours joined me at the scene”, Said Kioko.

Assistant chief came and witnessed what we had seen and notified the police”, He added.

Police from Tala police post picked the body and took it to Kangundo level four hospital for preservation awaiting postmortem.
