Three people lost their lives on Thursday night after the vehicles they were travelling in were involved in an accident along Nairobi-mombasa road.
The accident that involved multiple vehicles happened at Kapiti plains in Machakos county left 12 people with injuries.
The accident was confirmed by Machakos county police commander Samuel Mukindia who observed that it was caused by a matatu driver who tried overtaking other vehicles.
The matatu driver is said to have rammed on a trailer before he was hit from the back by another vehicle.
“The matatu driver tried overtaking other vehicle and rammed on a trailer befor his vehicle was hit from behind by another vehicle”, Said Mukindia.
He warned drivers against overtaking and overspeeding citing that drivers should adhere to traffic rules while on road and be wary of other road users.
Those who sustained injuries were rushed to Machakos level five hospital while the bodies of those who succumbed were moved to the same hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting identification.
The remains of the vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Kyumbi police station.
