The 20 year old woman who sustained injuries after being attacked by a hyena in Makueni has told the tale.
Irene Mbithe at Machakos level five hospital told the press that on the fateful day she was offered a lift by a truck driver to Machakos.
She was heading to Machakos from Nairobi while the tractor was headed to Mombasa but the driver agreed to drop her at Makutano.
On the way the men in the truck tried making sexual advances at her where she refused.
She claimed that the men became violent wanting to rape her and when she resisted they threw her out the vehicle at Makueni near Tsavo east national park, kilometers past the agreed destination (Makutano).
She was attacked by a hyena which gouged out her eye and mauled half her hand.
“The beast ate my hand as I watched, it was painful I cried in pain as it dragged me to the bushes“, She said.
Police officers from Mtito Andei Police Station who were on patrol in the area heard her screams near the park and rushed to the scene.
They found her writhing in pain before they rescued her from the hungry animal.
Mbithe was rushed to Makindu Hospital where she was admitted after sustaining the injuries.
Her relatives, later, requested to transfer her to the Machakos Level Five Hospital.
Police have confirmed the matter, saying investigations are underway to unmask the men behind the incident.
