A geography field session turned tragic on Friday evening where four Students from Syokisinga secondary drowned in River Athi.
The four,three boys and a girl all in form one are said to have tried to swim in the swollen river before the tragedy struck.
Efforts to save the lot proved futile after they got stuck.
The incident was confirmed by Yatta sub county education officer Stephen Kitungu who said only one body had been retrieved.
The search for the remaining three was called off after night fell and the exercise will resume on Saturday morning.
Leaders and friends have sent messages of condolences to the family of the four students.
The executive secretary for Kenya Union of Post primary teachers in Machakos county Musembi Katuku condoled with the school and families.
“I have learned of the drowning of 4 form one students of Syokisinga secondary school with alot of shock and disbelief. It is unfortunate that we have lost young and tender souls during this time of the year.
