Embakasi East MP Babu Owino is calling for an urgent intervention at the Pumwani Maternity hospital by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
The MP said that Pumwani hospital needs serious transformation in order to guarantee proper healthcare to city mothers.
Addressing the press at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, Owino said that the horrible incidents happening at the hospital have caused fear among city women who depend on it for maternity services.
“Governor Sonko should urgently intervene and transform the Pumwani hospital in terms of infrastructure, equipment and personnel to curb these ugly incidents,” he said.
Babu Owino has also called for investigations into the alleged unearthing of eleven bodies of infants at the hospital on Monday by Governor Sonko.
He said that the incident was shocking and legal actions should be taken against those who failed to do their duty resulting to the deaths and piling of the infant bodies.
“I learnt of the incident with shock and relevant agencies should investigate and take appropriate action,” Owino said.
The shocking discovery was exposed by Governor Sonko who had made an impromptu visit at the hospital.
The governor has since suspended the hospital’s senior officials.
Investigations into the Pumwani infants Saga is however ongoing with Several city politicians among them Kibera MP Ken Okoth and Senator Johnson Sakaja calling for a thorough probe into it.
