Kisasi Farmers Benefit from Free Artificial Insemination

Livestock farmers in Kisasi ward are part of farmers reaping the benefits of a successful launch of a free programme aimed at improving the breed of their cows. {Artificial Insemination}

The county government has been offering artificial insemination services to the farmers in a bid to boost milk production through high quality breeds and increasing milk and beef production since the launch.

The daily turn up of cows for the programme indicate that the initiative has been well received by farmers in the areas visited to this end.

Farmers have applauded the County Government Agricultural Department for making the programme free thus affordable to all.

“So far, this programme is the best thing that we’ve seen over the few years of devolved governments in the livestock sector– we hope this will continue in the future” explains Mwola Mataka, the Kisasi Market Livestock Chairman.

Musenya Martin, a resident of Musosya village in Kisasi says the programme is a milestone in promoting local farmers by improving the breed – farmers will forever be thankful” she pronounces.

On her part, Lucia Musili – a Kaloyo village resident says the initiative will boost their incomes and change the livestock sector completely.

Deputy Speaker and Kisasi MCA Kasee Musya said the programme has universally benefitted residents noting that only a few farmers could earlier access such services in the county.

Kitui county is one of the dominant players in Kenya’s livestock sector.
