Senator Kiio demands answers why Kitui residents were arrested and detained at Maua

Kitui senator Enoch Wambua is now demanding answers from the police and the judiciary over a move where 36 residents of Kaningo, in Tseikuru Kitui County were arrested by wardens at Mwingi North game reserve and taken for trial at Maua in Meru County and later detained there.

The move by the senator came following uproar by area residents over why the police thought it wise to arrest civilians in Kitui and later take them as far as Meru for Trial, while in Kitui there are many local courts.

While addressing residents of the area, Senator Wambua directed area police to equip him with facts surrounding the arrest before tomorrow so that he may follow up the matter with the Inspector General of police and the judiciary and know why such a thing happened under their watch.

Area MCA Boniface Kasina said that the matter has greatly hit family members of the arrested young men, as its expensive travelling all the way to Meru visit their loved ones who are currently detained there.

Mr. Kasina has alluded that the 36 youths might have been arrested after they failed the amount which was demanded by the police as bribe to release them.

Joseph Kasolo a area resident has called upon the government to hear their cry and bring home their family members or even try them in local courts in case they violated any law.
