Mwingi residents decry rising cases of lawlessness

Residents of Ngungani location in Mumoni Sub County in Kitui County have raised eyebrows over the rising cases of lawlessness raging from; increased teen pregnancies, early marriages and illicit brew, with most cases even of criminal nature being settled locally without following the laid out legal procedure.

Speaking yesterday at Mumoni Deputy county commissioner’s office where they had gone express their grievances, Pastor Peter Muthui who had led a group of elders from Ngungani location said that residents in their area have been perturbed by the ever rising state of lawlessness and called upon the Cabinet secretary in the ministry of Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i to establish measure which would ensure that the local administration in the area work for the people.

Mr. Muthui said that cases of defilement, teenage pregnancies and consumption of illicit brew have been on the rise, despite chiefs and sub chiefs from the area being fully aware of the happening and going to the extent of handling some criminal cases casually.

Rachael Muthami, another resident from the area said that the state in their area is wanting as many youths are ruining their future in abuse of drugs and young girls are being impregnated by rogue men in the area without any action being taken against them.

However, Mumoni DCC Hellen Chege distanced herself from the claims that the local administration has been condoning crime in the area, saying that anyone caught on te wrong side of the law will be dealt with accordingly.

Madam Chege warned any officer or even parent who will be caught having tried to settle criminal cases such as defilement locally that the appropriate legal action would be taken against them.
