Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has reiterated his earlier remarks on the newly commissioned new generation notes currency, affirming that Mzee Kenyatta’s statue hasn’t violated the constitution as many stated, but rather calls for the use of different various freedom heroes’ statues on different notes, as a way to honour their self commitment and determination to free our country.
“There is nothing wrong with Jomo Kenyatta’s statue on the new currency notes,” said Alfred Mutua.
There is a difference between a STATUE and a PORTRAIT. What we have is a statue of our founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta on the new notes and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
The Chap Chap leader further said it could have been wiser if the CBK used different statues on different notes currencies rather than the consistent use of Kenyatta’s statue.
The use of different statues could be a way to reflect the national outlook, thus creating a a regional balance in Kenya, that could accelerate attainment of unity nationwide.
“The people complaining would be Ok if it was a statue of a lion or giraffe. Are those animals more important than our founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and our freedom heroes?” concerned Mutua enquired.
What we should be saying is, let us have different statues of our heroes in different notes: Tom Mboya’s statue, Dedan Kimathi’s, Paul Ngei’s, Oginga Odinga’s, Wangari Maathai etc,” added Alfred Mutua.
