Police in Naivasha has arrested a 26-year old woman for allegedly aborting her unborn baby.
Confirming the incidence, Naivasha sub-county boss Samuel Waweru said neighbours of the woman discovered the crime.
According to Waweru, the Nyondia village locals informed the police who then acting on the information arrested the suspect.
“Neighbours claimed that the woman dumped the foetus in a pit latrine but we are yet to confirm that,” he said.
Mr Waweru said that according to her neighbours, the woman had her pregnancy terminated and dumped the foetus in a pit latrine.
A village leader, Bernard Macharia, claimed he received information about the crime from the locals stating that the woman had procured abortion on Monday morning.
“According to her neighbours, the suspect had been threatening to abort, citing the high cost of living,” Macharia said.
However, the police commander said that investigations are underway whereby the culprit will undergo a medical check-up to ascertain whether its true she procured an abortion.
The woman will thereby be charged in court if it’s established she committed the vice.
Residents were cautioned against aborting unwanted pregnancies by avoiding getting unplanned pregnancies through learning and practising family planning as high costs of living is not an excuse for committing the crime.
