Sylvia Mueni Kasanga is a practicing and RIBA Chartered Architect. She also serves as an Arbitrator with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK & Kenya.
She holds an Undergraduate Degree in Architecture from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) and Master’s Degree in Business Administration from United States International University – Africa (USIU-A).
She has 16-years of professional experience in the Construction Industry, is the Founder of Sycum Solutions Company Ltd, which is an Architectural and Construction Management firm based in Nairobi, and works in the larger East African setting.
Sylvia is currently a Nominated Member of Parliament in the Senate, representing Affirmative Action, as well as an Active Advocate for the Construction Profession. Since her nomination, she has been championing for the empowerment of youth and women in rural areas. She runs two programs on the same:
• The Girl2Leader Campaign Program aiming at mentoring and educating young women and girls on their rights, and the importance of participating in politics
• The Youth Engagement Program aiming to build the capacity of youth on life skills and community development.
Through these programs, she has piloted various local level projects that include; promote youth inclusivity and employment, showcase application of modern solutions in development of community infrastructure, and encourage for public participation in governance, and all forms of development.
On the national stage, she has sponsored an Amendment Bill in Parliament to de-stigmatize & re-structure the approach of dealing with Mental Health Diseases in Kenya.
