A bizarre plan by County Ministry of Health and Sanitation to convert Kiusyani mortuary into an office block has met stiff rejection from area residents.
“If you want County offices, please go ahead and build them. We won’t allow the facility to be used for purposes it wasn’t built for,” Paul Nyamala, a resident, maintained.
He said the morgue was set up in line with the community’s needs and efforts to reduce funeral costs for area residents,” Mr Nyamala added.
The locals argue that, though they cannot downplay the importance of having county offices within their vicinity, they were not ready to sacrifice the mortuary for them.
The facility was constructed under former Governor Julius Malombe’s administration to a tune of Sh.23 million and equipped with Sh.17 million worth of equipment.
They dismissed the move as a well calculated plot to hoodwink them into endorsing misuse of county resources.
Efforts to get comment from Chief Officer in charge of the health docket were futile as calls and messages to his cell went unanswered.
