Mati, Mutonguni ward aspirant writes to IEBC demanding for a by-election

The former Mutonguni ward aspirant Musee Mati has written a request letter to the IEBC offices making an enquiry about the delayed requisite notice to the area returning officer to conduct fresh elections after the court overturned the incumbent MCA’s victory.

The incumbent Mutonguni MCA Hon. Felix Baridi was declared the winner in the previous general election, after he garner the majority votes by far compared to his competitors.

Musee Mati, one of the incumbent’s close competitors complained the election malpractices in the previous election by which Felix Baridi was announced the winner.The court thereafter overturned his victory and ordered a fresh election.

Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. George Ndotto later issued a notice declaring Mutonguni ward seat vacant.The IEBC Chairman was thereafter notified about the vacant seat on 13th July ,2019.Since then, no communication has so far been made to the area election officer.

Mati is claiming the 21days period has lapsed upon which the IEBC Chairman should have notified Kitui West Constituency Returning Officer to conduct fresh elections.

In a letter dated 10th July, 2019 addressed to the IEBC Chairman, Mati termed the silent by the body as illegality and abuse of office demanding the body to act accordingly.
