The farming, trade and usage of Muguka in Kitui County is set to be regulated.
This is after the County Assembly on Wednesday afternoon approved a motion seeking to compel the County Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives and Investments to develop a policy document to govern and control the farming, trade and sell of Muguka within the county.
The debate of the motion was presided over by Temporary Speaker, Hon. Mary Ndumbu (Nominated MCA).
The motion as moved by Hon. Ruth Kyene – MCA Nzambani Ward sought to mandate the concerned county ministry to regulate hours during which the use and trade of muguka/khat is authorized, designate areas where the trade can be conducted.
Develop alternative ways for the affected persons to earn a livelihood, develop rehabilitation centres for the affected persons and develop ways where sports and village polytechnics can be used as avenues for youth engagement in order to reduce levels of idleness which leads to drug abuse amongst other issues.
