A tremor lasting about a minute was felt in parts of the country on 20/08/2019. The Kenya meterological department has confirmed an earth tremor hit some parts of Kenya but caused no significant damages.
On Tuesday morning, several Kenyan counties, including the capital Nairobi, were rocked by fleeting shaking of the earth. No damages were reported but residents of Ruiru, Nairobi, Mombasa, Murang’a and Syokimau were left shaken
Meteorological services said the tremor was also felt in Naivasha, Nakuru, Makueni, Mombasa, Kiambu and Nyeri.
The Kenya meteorological department confirmed that the tremor was caused by a light earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale experienced in North of Arusha in Tanzania.
Residents at the Coast have been urged to move away from beaches.
Kenyans took to Twitter and other social media platforms to raise the alarm over a tremor felt at 10.30am.
