A 42-year old mentally unstable man has committed suicide at Kaewa village, Masinga sub-county Machakos by hanging himself.
An enumerator had visited his homestead for a census was shocked to finf the man hanging on a tree.
Confirming the incidence, the area assistant chief Josphat Muli Mawia said that they are yet to identify the reason why he chose to kill himself but confirmed he had mental issues.
“At around 6 am, I received a call from one of the enumerators from my area, he told me that he had discovered a body of one Peter Mutinda near his home where he was headed for census,” he said.
According to Mawia the late Peter Mutinda also had been out of jail a month ago as reported by his family.
“No one should commit suicide no matter the reason. As for Mutinda he wasn’t stable mentally, had been chasing away his family members and even threatening them,” he added.
The assistant chief also urged families with mentally challenged people to follow up on them and ensure they are safe and well taken care of so that sad incidences like this one are avoided as much as possible.
Police from Masinga Police Station came to the scene and took the body to Mbaki mortuary in Matuu for preservation.
