Senators are expected to pitch camp in Kitui town, Kitui County from September 16th-20th in the second of the newly introduced ‘Senate Mashinani’ sittings.
It will be the second time the Senate is conducting its business outside Nairobi, after uasin Gishu held the first one in September 2018, with the move meant to bolster public participation and awareness at grassroots level.
The senators will be hosted by the County Assembly of Kitui where plenary sessions and committe meetings will be held.
Assembly Speaker George Ndotto confirmed that they were adequately prepared for the various scheduled events.
He further confirmed that all Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) are on recess ahead of the Senate’s sittings.
The ward reps will, however, be able to follow proceedings from the public gallery.
Ndotto expressed delight that Kitui would become the second county outside Nairobi to host sittings of the Senate.
