A Mwingi based political activist and a businessman is nursing serious gun injuries, after he was attacked at his shop and shot on the left leg by unknown gunmen.
Katiwa Nzoka, a middle aged man who is famous in Kitui for being a strong government critic in social media platforms, is said to have been preparing to close his shop at Mwingi town at around 9:00pm yesterday, before he heard a deafening gunshot which left his left leg paralyzed following the bullet which penetrated his leg below knee.
The activist is said to have been rescued by his neighbors who after hearing the deafening sound of the gunshot and wailing of his wife ran to his rescue and found him lying on the ground bleeding profusely. They immediately rushed him to the nearby private hospital where he was given first aid treatment before being referred at Muthale Mission hospital in Kitui west, as public hospital in Kitui are still non operational due to ongoing doctors strike in the county.
According to Nzoka, some unknown people have been trailing him for some time and he has been getting numerous threats from some senior individuals in Kitui county government and across Ukambani for his unwavering political stance on good governance.
The incidence was confirmed by Mwingi OCPD Peter Mutuma whom after reaching him on phone said that investigation to unveil the motives and those behind the shooting have already kicked off.
