Kitui County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Water and Livestock Development Emmanuel Kisangau has called on farmers across the county to prepare adequately for the approaching rains.
Speaking at the Agricultural Training Centre today, the CEC emphasized the need for farmers to prepare in good time to overcome the challenges of climate change currently experienced in the country.
“The agricultural sector has been affected by climate change in our country but this should not stop us from learning new ways to improve on farming.” Said the CEC Member.
He noted that a high number of farmers rely hugely on agriculture for their daily lives across the county.
Mr. Kisangau said the county will continue investing in water provision to serve domestic and irrigation needs.
He urged Extension officers to educate farmers on ways of harvesting rain water to aid in serving their needs.
“We must focus on streamlining the agricultural sector, and exploit all possible ways so that the people of Kitui can be food secure” added the CECM.
Reports given by the Sub County Agricultural Officers indicated that farmers were already preparing their farms for the upcoming rainy season and they had started using the services of the county tractors to plough their farms.
The Chief Officer Mr. Songolo who was also present in the meeting urged the officers to work together and report any issues affecting the farmers in advance for immediate action.
