Peter Ndegwa has been appointed as the new Safaricom Chief Executive Officer today.
Ndegwa will take over from Michael Joseph who is the acting CEO after the demise of Bob Collymore.
According to the Safaricom PLC board of directors in a statement on Thursday ,Ndegwa’s appointment will take effect from April 1,2020.
Ndegwa joins Safaricom from Diageo PLC where he is the Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe.
Safaricom Chairman ,Nicholas Nganga in a statement said that ,”peter brings a wealth of experience in General Management ,Commercial and Business Strategy ,Sales and Finance Operations ,having spent over 25 years in various roles within the Financial Services and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods(FMCG) sectors in Africa and Europe.
In his current role, Peter oversees the operations of Diageo PLC in 50 countries in Western Europe ,Russia ,Middle East and North Africa.
Peter had previously served for 7 years as CEO in Guinness Nigeria PLC and Ghana Breweries PLC.
