TRADE: County Government of Kitui meets uniform suppliers for agreement on sector growth

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu met dealers from the textile sector in the county to engage them on making the county vibrant in production of quality garments and grow individual economies.

Speaking at the County Textile Centre {KICOTEC} earlier today, Governor Ngilu said her administration is initiating a working journey for the success of the sector that employs thousands of residents across the county.

“My government looks forward to strengthening our working relationship with you to back your ventures and benefit our people”. She said.

She said her government is engaging the suppliers to drive the efforts of making the sector one of the significant contributors to the economic growth.

“I encourage you to form SACCOs to boost collective bargaining and realize high production volumes to protect your concerns forthwith”. She said.
She added that through the SACCOs, the traders will access financing from the government and grow their individual income.

Noting the need to support KICOTEC gains, the Governor called on the suppliers to buy uniforms from the county and support the local manufacturing plant grow.

Margaret Mutunga, a uniform supplier in Kitui town welcomed the county government’s intervention saying it will protect them from defiant teachers who continue to buy uniforms outside the county.

“I am pleased that this comes at the right time. We need protection from teachers who have not heeded to the “buy local goods’ idea.” Said Margaret.
Further, the meeting recommended tough action against schools that won’t support local uniform suppliers.
