“I congratulate the school, the parents and the students on this year’s performance and more so for the solidarity of this family that was thrown in the limelight when tragedy struck’, she said.

Precious Talent Top School is a community-based school in Ngando Ward for children in nearby informal settlements. Two months ago, learning was abruptly interrupted when a wall collapsed on pupils during mid-morning classes. Eight students, all of them KCPE candidates lost their lives. One boy sustained a spinal injury and is undergoing physical therapy to regain full control of his limbs.

Following the accident, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha ordered an audit of the structural integrity of all schools across the country. Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga donated Kes 1M for the remodeling of the school. A task-force led by Hon. Passaris with technical supervision of the Architectural Association of Kenya has been spearheading these efforts.

“I pray we break the barrier of approval at City Hall for the school to be reconstructed and reopened. I am grateful to Samuel (the landlord) for the additional land to meet approval requirements. I will soon facilitate counseling services at the school as reconstruction of the facilities is ongoing”.

The proposed new structure of Precious Talent Top School is set to have 17 revamped class rooms, a playground, kitchen and servery area with a separate office block. Classes for lower primary school will have wall murals that enhance learning. A set of outdoor hand washing basins will be installed to boost sanitation. A memorial site will also be built to commemorate the eight young lives lost.
