Kitui South is the only beneficiary of the newly formed administrative units in Kitui County.
In a Kenya Gazette notice dated 21st June 2017 on the establishment of new administrative units as service delivery coordination units in the country, Kitui South was the only constituency in Kitui County considered for additional units.
The vast constituency was considered for a new additional division (Kyatune), 10 locations and 6 Sub-Locations.
The locations are Kawelu, Kaliani, Enzou, Kitoo, Ilusya and Imale in Mutomo Sub-county.
Others are Kituti, Kilumya, Yamunyu and Kavengi in Ikutha Sub-county.
The six newly formed Sub-Locations are Mutomo central, Kavyuvyaa, Kasang’u, Kaliluni, Ivumbu and Ngosini.
Kitui South MP Dr. Rachael Nyamai had continually lobbied the government for the formation of new administrative units in her constituency in an effort to enhance service delivery to residents.
” The efforts have paid off with those new units and i request our people to make use of the opportunities coming with the formation of those new units” Dr. Nyamai said
At the same time, the legislator revealed that Ksh 200Million had been released by the national lands commission (NLC) for the compensation of land owners affected by construction of the Kitui-Mutomo -Kibwezi highway.
According Dr. Nyamai, the amount is the first tranche of funds to be released by the government with more funds on the way.
The Kibwezi- Mutomo-Kitui highway is nearing completion with 125 KM so far tarmacked.
