With the ongoing pandemic razing the globe, face masks have become the hottest selling commodity in the market. Following in the footsteps of Kitui county’s KICOTEC, Machakos county has dived in the business of producing face masks.
This was announced by Governor Alfred Mutua in a post on his official social media platforms.
Here is the post :
“Machakos Technical Training Centres have begun production of masks for the people of Machakos.
These masks are being produced at a cost of ksh10, a cost being borne by the County government, with a projection of a daily production capacity of 50,000 masks. We intend to scale up production so as to take advantage of economies of scale.
I have today received donations from various organizations that have supported our Machakos Covid-19 support program. These are;
- Capwell Industries LTD
- Dinlas Pharma EPZ Limited
- Plan international
- Shona Textiles
- Davis & Shirtliff
I thank the well-wishers who have donated to our Covid-19 support program so far. We also welcome other well-wishers to support us and ensure that the people of Machakos remain food secure.
So far we have received donations of surgical masks, sanitizers, gloves, bleaches, Covid-19 sensitization posters, soap, waste bins, disposable gowns, face shields, water tanks, food stuff such as maize and wheat Flour, rice, spaghetti, cooking oil and other foodstuffs.
I must acknowledge our governments’ initiatives that have kept Machakos out of the Counties receiving food relief. With subsidized fertilizers, free seeds, free artificial Insemination for our farmers among other interventions. This is a key step towards development.
I thereafter handed over the donated foods to the Machakos County Assembly Members led by the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Florence Mwangangi. The MCA’s will distribute the foods to the needy wananchi within their respective wards.
Cohesive engagement between my government, the County Assembly and the county administration has seen Machakos maintain low numbers during this Covid-19 period and I truly thank them for the support.
God bless Machakos, God bless Kenya.”
